At Apple's September annual event on Tuesday, Apple unveiled three new iPhones. iPhone 8, iPhone 8 plus and iPhone X known as the iPhone 10 for the 10th year iPhone anniversary. The iPhone 8 comes in three colors, silver, gold and space gray and pre orders start on September the 15th. Apple also introduced the high-end iPhone X but that won't be available until early November. I will make a post on the iPhone 8 nearer the release date.
The iPhone 8 looks exactly identical to the previous iPhone 7 but it has an all new glass design which Apple says its the most durable glass ever used in a smartphone.
The iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 plus both are available in 4.7 (iPhone 8) and 5.5 (iPhone 8 plus) sizes. They both use the same Touch ID we are all used to and both phones are IP67 water and dust resistant. Apple states that the built in speakers are 25% louder than the previous iPhone 7. I look forward to testing the speakers out in person.
I hoped Apple would have updated the display in the iPhone 8 to give it more resolution but they have kept it the same 1334×750 (326ppi) as the iPhone 7. Apple has added True Tone to match the color of the display to the ambient lighting for a more natural paper-like viewing experience. But without higher resolution, I can't see this feature been much of a difference.
Apple has introduced a new A11 bionic chip which they say is the most powerful and smartest chip ever in a smartphone. The bionic chip has four efficiency cores that are up to 70 percent faster than A10 Fusion which is used in the iPhone 7 also, the bionic chip has two performance cores that are up to 25 percent faster.
Apple has designed the A11 bionic chip with augmented reality in mind. In the next few months, developers will start to release a whole bunch of augmented reality apps, which I think will change the way we use smartphones today.
Apple has improved the camera to a 12mp more advanced with a larger, faster sensor. A new color filter. Deeper pixels. And optical image stabilization for photos and videos. Apple has updated there camera app to offer more features. They have added a portrait mode for sharper foregrounds and more naturally blurred backgrounds. Apple will soon introduce portrait lighting effect which uses dual cameras and new facial landmarking to create dramatic studio lighting effects in Portrait mode. As well as portrait mode Apple has also updated the optical zoom to use the wide‑angle and telephoto lenses. On the iPhone 8 Plus enabled optical zoom, as well as digital zoom of up to 10x for photos and 6x for videos.
